Ahoy sailors of all! Kings and Queens and all the crowns in-between, it is my honour to be writing the very first - of many to come - weekly newsletters!
My name is Riveira, Riveira Bailey! I am a sailor, a traveller, a poet, a filmographer, archivist, musician, thinker, and most importantly an artist. I take my experiences from past lives and put them into songs, and do I have quite the few songs to show!
I shall be keeping this structure and (hopefully) consistently posting this weekly newsletter - I hope you enjoy!
In this last month, I have kept myself on my toes filming upwards to five hours worth of material! There's been musical escapades, responses to all your lovely comments, and my documentation of this strange briefcase that keeps... spawning in. You shall see shortly!
I've been trying to push myself outside my little shelter called home and venturing out to central London! I've taken a few pictures with I've posted on Instagram :)
Aswell as this all, I'm putting on my finishing touches on my yet-to-be-titled sophomore album! It shall be 8 tracks, a much smoother and shorter run time than ALVUANA. I have many-a-details to come in the future but for now, here's a snippet of a song I've been working on. It shall be called THE SCENE.
Poem For The Week
I aim to either conjure up a little poem per week or show off an older poem not by me that means a lot to me! Here's one that provided the very fundamentals to ALVUANA, my debut project. It's entitled...
Requiem
By Robert Louis Stevenson
Under the wide and starry sky,
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will
This be the verse you grave for me:
Here he lies where he longed to be;
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.
I'm always constantly hearing music, new and old, trying to find anything to grasp! So I thought I would share some songs for the week! How about four lovely songs?
2 Arabesques, L. 66 (Arr for Guitar) - Anders Miolin
• I really love Anders Miolin's guitar interruption, of Debussy’s Arabesques, L. 66!
Mood for a Day - Yes
• I’ve loved prog-rock and Yes for many a lifetimes, but this gorgeous acoustic instrumental piece by Steve Howe had somehow slipped passed by - not for much longer! It’s dramatic, it’s romantic, and it’s downright brilliant. I love playing the small calm middle section on my classical acoustic!
King of Pain - The Police
• A new favourite from The Police's last album, beautiful lyrics and stunning song as a whole!!
There's More To Life Than This - Björk
• Björk never ceases to surprise! Listen to this one headphones, I've never heard anything like it since! Super groovy and funky too!
ALVUANA
Word Type: Noun
Definition: The end of a significant period of time.
Example: “The sense of ALVUANA had been felt by all those watching beyond the balconies as the heavens fell around them'‘
(I solemnly swear ALVUANA shan't be the re-occurring word of the week!)
